Robo Recall is a free first-person arcade-style shooter for the Oculus Touch. The game is developed by Epic Games as a triple-A free-to-play title for the Oculus Rift. I've been blown away when I first read and saw Robo Recall trailer. The game brings a breath of fresh air into the first-person shooter game industry.
Robo Recall is a fast-paced arcade-style shooter that put emphasize on destruction and dismemberment gameplay. You start your way in a basement of the world's largest robot manufacturer. The robots have seen too many cat videos online and have decided to choose the dark side (ROFL, but it's true according to the game's lead designer) - I love games with a touch of humor.
The game features a tutorial that teaches you the fundamental moves and teleportation to make you feel comfortable playing it when you get outside the basement area to fight some real enemies. It's actually like a sandbox area where you can practice and experiment with all the robots skills without any limitations.
The best thing about the game is the fighting and shooting mechanics. Epic Games made sure that this game isn't going to be yet another FPS game, but one that will blow your mind. You start with two pistols but shortly after and as you progress, you'll be unlocking more and more cool weapons, each one with its own unique design, shooting style and upgrades. Robot Recall also gives a great deal of attention to melee combat. You can jump on robots, throw and tear them apart, grab, pull and shoot them at close range or throw them against other robots. The number of unique gameplay mechanics interactions and is what makes this game stand apart from the rest.
Like a good old fighting game, here you also have combos and can launch a tremendous crushing move that will tear your opponent into pieces and finish him off.
As you progress, you'll unlock new more powerful and unique weapons as well as new abilities which you can use to outcome stronger enemies as you progress through the campaign.
This game is made by Epic Games, so obviously we get to enjoy some superb visuals due to the Unreal Engine 4 graphics engine as well as some cool physics-based action at the highest quality.
As I mentioned, the game will be available for free for Oculus Rift owners. It's great that Oculus Rift owners, after investing a great deal of money on the headset, PC, and Oculus Touch controllers, get to enjoy a triple-A quality game for free. I obviously prefer to see some difference games other than shooters for the Oculus Touch, but this one seems really unique and super fun to play.
Robo Recall is planned to be released in Q1 2017.
