Google Tango, formerly known as Project Tango is an Augmented Reality platform for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. The first phone to support this technology is the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro. The phone uses several technologies, including Motion Tracking (to detect the movement of the user), Depth Sensing (to detect the distance of objects in the physical space) and Area Leaning (the device spatial memory for drift correction and also support multiplayer games that take place in space physical space).
Google first demonstrated the Tango capabilities using a prototype device. It features the same sensor and hardware accelerated vision processing instruments to deliver great experiences. Since then Google improved the technology and updates the API, so many developers are already looking forward to developing great games and apps using this new technology.
Augmented Reality games are anything you've seen before. The experience is completely different than VR because the objects within the Tango game can interact with the virtual representation of the physical stuff in your surrounding. So for example, a virtual cat can jump on your choice or hand around the room, without bumping into walls or appear as it is floating in the air without any connection to its surrounding. This is just a simple example, and the create possibilities are endless and those games that you see on this page is just a glimpse of what about to come in the upcoming years.
On this page, you can find a list of games which are compatible with the Google Tango platform. We are updating this list on a regular basis, so you can come back and learn about the latest and upcoming Augmented Reality games for Google Tango, read reviews and previews, find out about release dates and discuss those games in our forums.
The technology behind Google Tango is really amazing, and it's great to see this technology available for the mass market. The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is the first mobile phone to support it, but there will be more OEMs to adopt this technology with more developers developing content for it.
Keep in mind that Google Tango games don't work on any Android phone, maybe some APIs will be supported, but you need to have a dedicated Tango-enabled device to play them. So just have fun browsing through the Tango games and have fun playing AR games on your Tang-enabled device!
