Arktika.1 is a post-apocalyptic first-person shooter developed exclusively for the Oculus Touch, by the developer of Metro 2033. The game takes place 100 years in the future in an ice age. You play as a mercenary and given a mission to protect the only left habitable regions in Russia from bandits, marauders, and other creatures. Arktika.1 is an Oculus Touch-exclusive first-person shooter title and the one that really caught my attention among all the other game at Oculus Connect 3 event, alongside Robo Recall.

I love first-person shooters, but when it comes to VR, developers need to make sure that the shooter is optimized for that virtual reality experience and can take full use of its potential. This game was developed to take full use of the Oculus Touch controllers, which will be released on the 6th of December this year.

The game is being developed by 4A Games, the same company who brought us Metro Last Light and Metro 2033, and it looks like Arktika.1 borrows some gameplay elements from those games. Arktika 1 tells a post-apocalyptic story of Earth 100 years from now. You are a part of a group of mercenaries hired to protect the only hiding human colonies in Russia.

You use advanced weapon technologies that will help you fight your opposing enemies which emerge since the ice age has started. The game also heavily based on a cover system. Each level has its own cover areas which you can teleport to and be protected from an enemy fire. Those who played the demo at the Oculus Connect 3 event, said that the AI was very smart and it was really enjoyable and challenging to play against.

Arktika.1 feature gorgeous visuals, modular weapon designs, and amazing visual effects that help bring that story to life and immerse the player in it. It looks like the game takes full use of every piece of processing power available and utilize the Oculus Touch controllers to make this FPS experience both convincing and immersive than ever before. Of course, there are many shooters out there, but this is a title that was brought up in Oculus Connect 3 event because it is fully tailored and optimized to work with the upcoming Touch Controllers.  It's the time to finally bring those high-quality FPS experiences to life as the Oculus Rift was designed for in the first place, but the Oculus Touch just weren't available yet.
