About Google Cardboard Headset

Google Cardboard is a virtual reality platform that consists of a the headset itself made of cardboard and a complimentary Google Carboard app. This headset was designed to offer a low-cost entry for Android owners to play VR games on their devices. Later on Google announced iOS support for the Unity plugin. Unity is a game development platform used by many developers to develop 3D games. So you can now also find apps and games that are compatible with Google Carboard, not just on Google Play but in Apple App Store as well. The current Google Carboard VR headset supports smartphones with up to 6-inch displays.

Google made virtual reality available for everyone. Developers have received this technology with open arms. There are lots of games in both iOS and Android app stores, and more are being developed and uploaded to both stores every day. On Google's website, you can also find links to some other Google Carboard-compatible headsets, what Google calls viewers, which are compatible with Google Carboard apps as well. Some of them use better quality glass, and some are made with plastic and look completely different than the original. Google made the Carboard viewer specification open source, so everyone, including you, can download the Kit and build your own viewer.

The operation of Google Carboard (and any of its compatible viewers) is simple, install the complimentary app, insert your smartphone into the viewer, put the viewer on your head and start playing. You can also watch 360˚ virtual reality videos with Google Carboard by visiting youtube.com/360. There are many other 360-degree experiences waiting to be discovered.
